What is the best place to grab a drink in Placencia?
With some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, the Placencia Peninsula in southeastern Belize is a popular choice for visitors. Measuring 16 miles north to south but just half a mile wide, the easiest way to get around Placencia is by golf cart.
At the southern tip of the peninsula lies Placencia Village, a small community of just 1,500 people but where you’ll find cool bars, cozy cafes, charming shops, and colorful murals. The newest addition to this bohemian community is The Little Wine Bar which opened on June 30, 2018 just one block from the municipal pier.
Striking just the right balance between intimacy and spaciousness, The Little Wine Bar can seat up to 14 people in the air-conditioned bar area and another 14 on the outdoor veranda. The Little Wine Bar is a lifelong dream of Jana Belknap and Kevin Quischan, the founders and owners, who wanted to add a touch of upscale class to the Placencia Peninsula.
The Little Wine Bar serves wine by the glass or bottle along with upscale treats like smoked meats, pate, and cheeses sold by the ounce. The Little Wine Bar serves a fine selection of over 30 different kinds of imported red, wine, and rose wines from Italy, France, Chile, the United States, and Argentina, including lovely chilled Chardonnays and sparkling proseccos perfect for sipping on a hot day. The Little Wine Bar is also the only place where you can find Coppola wines besides the Family Coppola Resorts.
And don’t worry if you’re not a wine expert because owner Jana is always on hand to offer recommendations and suggestions for great pairings. Since the meats and cheeses are sold by the ounce, you can order a customized charcuterie platter or try some local specialties like spicy beef sticks made on Ambergris Caye or Old Brabander cheeses from Caves Branch Jungle Lodge.
Whether you come by yourself or with a group, the intimate size of The Little Wine Bar means that there’s always a fun, combined conversation going on with travelers swapping stories and telling tall tales. There is also a large selection of complimentary games available, including playing cards, backgammon, Yahtzee, Mancala, cribbage, Scrabble, and trivia
