Best Place to Eat in Placencia Belize: Omar’s Creole Grub
Belize, with its fertile soil and abundant fisheries, is rapidly becoming a paradise for foodies. And one of the best places to eat in the country is Omar’s Creole Grub in Placencia Village in southeastern Belize.
Simple and unprepossessing from the outside, Omar’s Creole Grub was founded in 1993, making it one of the oldest restaurants in the area. Omar’s Creole Grub is a family-owned and run restaurant that serves traditional Creole Belizean food. Still helmed by the eponymous Omar, the restaurant specializes in seafood dishes prepared with fresh-caught fish, conch, and other delicacies brought in daily from local fishermen.
Some of the most iconic fare served at Omar’s Creole Grub include fish, lobster, shrimp, and conch slow-cooked in traditional Creole sauces like Caribbean curry, butter, hot pepper, and garlic. All of the dishes at the restaurant are available in both a mild and spicy hot version.
Diners can watch as the seafood is prepared and cooked onsite in an open-air kitchen by Omar’s team of experienced local cooks. Although the menu is limited, Omar’s Creole Grub is more than happy to cook traditional dishes upon request. Due to its commitment to authentic flavors and recipes, the grub is very popular with both locals and international visitors alike.
