The Philip Goldson International Airport is located in Ladyville, approximately nine miles north of Belize City. Often referred to as the “international airport” or the “Belize City” airport, the Philip Goldson airport is where all international flights into Belize land.
Once on the ground, it’s easy to get from Belize City to Placencia Peninsula as well as the Placencia Village located on the southern tip of the peninsula in southern Belize. As the crow flies, Belize City is approximately 160 miles from Placencia.

There are always plenty of taxi drivers around who are more than willing to drive you anywhere in the country, including Placencia, but you’ll pay a fairly steep premium for the convenience. Make sure you negotiate the price before you depart, and remember that all licensed taxis bear a green license plate. Never, ever get into an unlicensed taxi!
Belize has two domestic airlines, Tropic Air and Maya Island Air that operate numerous daily flights to Placencia from Belize City. Some flights depart from the Philip Goldson International Airport and others from the Sir Barry Bowen Airport (commonly called the Belize Municipal Airport) in Belize City. Be aware that these are “puddle jumpers,” very small aircraft with just 5-20 passengers.
Flying to Placencia is certainly the fastest way to get there, but you’ll pay for the privilege.
There is a nationwide network of public buses that will get you to Placencia. From the main bus station in Belize City, the journey to Placencia takes around five hours. The price is around $15 for a one-way journey, but be aware that buses are often quite crowded.
Travelers in need of door-to-door service can rely on private transfers. From the Belize International Airport or Belize City to Placencia, Barefoot Rentals charges USD $73.75 per person for up to 4 persons.
Barefoot Services sometimes operate shuttles from Belize City to Placencia for as low as USD$49 and are often offered via their Facebook page.
Barefoot Services also rents cars and can deliver vehicles to Belize City or other major destinations around the country to allow travelers to drive to Placencia on their own. Anyone with a valid driver’s license in their home country can legally drive in Belize.
