Battle of the Paddles: Paddle for a Cause in Placencia Belize This August

Get ready for an unforgettable day on the water! On August 3, 2025, the shores of Placencia will come alive for the first-ever Battle of the Paddles — a community-centered event that blends outdoor fun with a serious commitment to conservation. Hosted by the Crocodile Research Coalition (CRC) and Barefoot Services, this exciting initiative brings together paddlers, nature lovers, and locals to celebrate and protect one of Belize’s most vital ecosystems: the Placencia Lagoon.

A Collaboration with Purpose

At Barefoot Services, we believe travel should make a positive impact. That’s why we’re proud to team up with the Crocodile Research Coalition, a passionate nonprofit based right here in Belize. Since 2016, CRC has been a driving force in crocodile conservation, but their work goes far beyond reptiles. They champion the protection of entire ecosystems — with the Placencia Lagoon at the heart of their efforts.

CRC’s hands-on approach includes wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and education initiatives focused on building understanding and coexistence between communities and local wildlife. The Battle of the Paddles is a natural extension of this mission — bringing people together on the water for a great cause.

What to Expect on August 3rd

 August 2025 Belize activities

Paddlers (canoeists, kayakers, and paddleboarders) of all skill levels are welcome to join the fun. Whether you’re racing to the finish line or cruising for the views, your participation supports a larger goal: protecting the lagoon and promoting sustainable tourism in Belize.

Expect friendly competition, community booths, environmental education stations, and plenty of local flavor. We’ll have equipment rentals available, guided support on the water, and great company all around. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore the lagoon from a new perspective while learning how we can all contribute to its preservation.

Why It Matters

The Placencia Lagoon is more than just a pretty backdrop — it’s a thriving habitat for manatees, crocodiles, birds, and countless other species. It also plays a vital role in local livelihoods and the future of ecotourism in southern Belize. Events like Battle of the Paddles help raise awareness and funding to keep this ecosystem healthy and vibrant for generations to come.

So whether you’re here for the race, the cause, or just the community spirit — we invite you to be part of it.
