A cave tubing tour at Nohoch Cheʼen, easily accessible from Placencia, Hopkins, and across Southern Belize. (see video)
Consistently ranked among the top things to do in Belize, this experience blends gentle adventure, rich Maya history, and the natural beauty of the rainforest—making it an ideal full-day excursion for travelers based along the coast.
Your journey begins with a scenic inland drive from Placencia or Hopkins, transitioning from Caribbean coastline to lush jungle landscapes near Belmopan. Upon arrival, a short and easy jungle walk leads you to the river’s edge, where your cave tubing adventure begins.
From there, the experience becomes effortlessly relaxing. Float at a natural pace through a series of ancient limestone caves, surrounded by towering formations and cool, shaded chambers. As you drift through these sacred spaces, your guide shares stories of Maya rituals, geological history, and the cultural significance of the caves.
Travelers often ask if cave tubing in Belize is a “must-do”—and for many visiting from Placencia or Hopkins, it becomes a highlight of their trip inland.
This Belize cave tubing experience is designed to be accessible and unhurried. No prior experience is needed, and all equipment is provided, including helmets, headlamps, and life vests.
Along the way, keep an eye on the riverbanks—Southern Belize’s rich ecosystems often reveal wildlife and vibrant plant life when you least expect it.
It’s no surprise that many guests return to experience it again.
Make the most of your inland journey from Placencia or Hopkins by combining your Belize cave tubing experience with a guided visit to the ancient Maya city of Xunantunich. (see video)
This popular full-day combination allows you to experience two of Belize’s most iconic highlights in one seamless itinerary—perfect for travelers who want both adventure and cultural discovery in a single day.
Your visit to Xunantunich begins with a unique hand-cranked ferry crossing over the Mopan River, followed by exploration of expansive plazas, ceremonial structures, and panoramic viewpoints. The highlight is El Castillo, one of the tallest Maya temples in Belize, offering breathtaking views across the surrounding jungle and into neighboring Guatemala for those who choose to climb.
Travelers often ask if combining both experiences is too much for one day. In reality, this itinerary is thoughtfully paced—pairing the relaxed float of cave tubing with the light exploration and optional climbing at Xunantunich creates a balanced and highly rewarding day.
This combination is especially popular for guests staying in Southern Belize who want to maximize their time inland without feeling rushed.
The cave tubing at Jaguar Paw is considered easy and is one of the most relaxed and accessible adventures in Belize—ideal for families, first-time visitors, and those looking for a gentle, scenic experience.
Guests begin with a short jungle walk (approximately 10–15 minutes) along a well-maintained trail before reaching the river. From there, the experience becomes effortlessly enjoyable as you settle into your inner tube and float at a calm, natural pace through a series of limestone caves.
Travelers often ask if cave tubing in Belize is physically demanding—the answer is no. There is no swimming required (but can be more enjoyable if you can swim), and the current carries you smoothly through the caves while your guide remains close by for support and storytelling.
This experience is less about exertion and more about immersion—drifting beneath towering cave formations, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Belizean rainforest.
Extend your adventure with a visit to The Belize Zoo, where you can encounter indigenous wildlife up close, creating a perfect complement to your cave tubing experience at Jaguar Paw.
Amp up the excitement by adding ziplining to your cave tubing adventure at Jaguar Paw, offering a thrilling treetop journey that complements the natural wonders of the cave system.
