Yes. Norwegian Cruise Line advises that passengers who want to leave Harvest Caye can take a ferry to Placencia. Ferry tickets and the day’s schedule are obtained from the Shore Excursion Desk aboard the ship.
Ferry space is limited, and the departure and return schedule may affect how much time a passenger has in Placencia. Anyone hoping to book an independent shore excursion should speak with the ship’s Shore Excursion Desk as early as possible and pay close attention to the return-ferry time. Be fully aware that desk’s purpose may be to sell you an NCL contracted tour from their list. They may want to ensure you do not buy from independent suppliers and local companies like us.
Barefoot Services does not operate or sell tickets for the Harvest Caye–Placencia ferry. Once guests arrive in Placencia, our team can meet confirmed participants at the Placencia Municipal Pier and begin the reserved experience from there.
How do I plan an independent excursion from Harvest Caye?
The most important step is to confirm the ferry schedule before selecting an excursion. Port hours alone do not show how much usable time passengers will have in Placencia.
First, confirm the date and scheduled hours of the ship’s call at Harvest Caye. Once aboard, visit the NCL Shore Excursion Desk to ask about Placencia ferry tickets, availability and the day’s return schedule. Send Barefoot Services a photograph or copy of the schedule, together with the ship name and group details. We will review the available window and confirm whether the requested excursion can be completed comfortably.
Guests with a shorter window may be better suited to an activity in or near Placencia. Guests who secure an early ferry and have a longer port day may be able to visit a waterfall, rainforest or cultural community farther inland.
We do not recommend choosing an activity only because it looks close on a map. Road conditions, loading time, activity duration and the required return buffer all matter.

2. Beach Horseback Riding near Placencia
Enjoy a guided horseback ride beside the Caribbean Sea at the only beach horseback-riding location on the Placencia Peninsula. No riding experience is necessary, and the horses remain at a walk, making the experience approachable for many first-time riders.
The stables are a short drive from Placencia Village, so this activity may work well for passengers who want a memorable adventure without travelling deep into the mainland. Ride times, age guidance, participant weight limits and availability must be confirmed in advance.
Best suited for: Couples, families with older children (8+ or kids with riding experience) and guests looking for a distinctive coastal experience.
3. Waterfall Swimming in Southern Belize
A waterfall visit introduces cruise passengers to the greener side of Southern Belize. After travelling inland from Placencia, guests can enjoy the tropical surroundings and cool off in fresh water.
The exact experience and walking conditions should be selected according to the group’s mobility and available time. Natural surfaces may be uneven or wet, and suitable footwear is recommended. This tour must be coordinated around an early enough arrival in Placencia and a safe return to the pier.

Passengers should keep a copy of their confirmation and contact details accessible. If a ferry is delayed or the schedule changes, guests should contact Barefoot Services as soon as they safely can. The available excursion may need to be shortened, changed or cancelled according to the booking policy.
How much time should passengers allow for the return?
Passengers should follow the return instructions provided by the cruise line and arrive at the Placencia pier before the ferry departure specified in their confirmation. Barefoot will build an appropriate return buffer into the excursion plan, but guests remain responsible for boarding their required ferry and returning to the ship on time.
Do not plan around the ship’s departure time alone. The important deadline is the ferry that passengers must board from Placencia.
